Beside's being the Player of Year for CSU Pueblo 2009. Rachel Espinoza, Heat Alumni 2004-2007, just reached a career landmark scoring 1000 points for CSU Pueblo and she is only a Junior. Rachel also was RMAC player of the week 4x already this year. Watch the Video of Rachel hitting the 1,000 point!  or read Rachel scores 1000th in overtime win!

July of 2009 I was contacted by head coach of Wingate University in North Carolina, Barbara Nelson. Barbara had heard about our team as a national contender in the club circuit. Barbara is also the Head Coach of the U16 Olympic development team in Colorado Springs. Barbara asked if we would scrimmage her U16 Olympic Developement team in August of 2009. Unfortunately we were unable to play due to all of our players playing Fall Sports and thus had prior commitments. We were honored to be asked and will continue to support women's basketball anyway we can!

CSU Pueblo upset #4 Fort Lewis and Rachel scored 18 points!! 2009

The zenith came Saturday at the Auraria Events Center in Denver when Espinoza knocked down two free throws with less than a second to play to give the ThunderWolves an 81-79 victory over highly-touted Quincy (Ill.) University, presenting the Pack the mythical Metro State Thanksgiving Classic championship.

Trailing 79-78 with just over 6 seconds to play, Espinoza went the length of the court and was fouled driving to the basket. She made the first free throw to tie the game before Quincy called time-out.

"During the time-out, I told Rachel, ‘they don't know who they are dealing with,’Ê" CSU-Pueblo head coach Kip Drown said. "We knew she was going to make the second free throw."

And she did, giving the Pack a signature win over an opponent that had ripped off six wins without a loss.
